Type 1 Diagnosis in Adulthood

If you have been diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, you may feel a sense of isolation and an additional emotional burden associated with the diagnosis. Living with Type 1 Diabetes is lifelong, requiring constant decision-making and self-management. It is not just about insulin and blood glucose levels; it can also impact your emotional well-being. Recognising the mental load of Type 1 Diabetes is essential for ensuring a healthy, balanced life and improved diabetes management in the long term.

The DREAMS Programme for Adults Living with Newly Diagnosed Type 1 Diabetes

We have developed a programme based on insights from two focus groups with adults newly diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.
The DREAMS Programme offers a supportive space for adults newly diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes to connect with others who understand what it is like to adjust to this new chapter. Through shared experiences and guided conversations, participants learn practical coping strategies, explore the emotional impact of diagnosis, and build confidence in managing everyday life with diabetes.
