Educational webinars for Type 1 Diabetes

Diabetes Ireland offers interactive online sessions to help school staff better understand and support students living with Type 1 diabetes.

These sessions are generic in nature and not intended to provide individualised medical advice. Specific care plans should always be guided by the child’s parents and diabetes team, including a Personal Pupil Plan supported by their hospital.

We deliver our session to support diabetes in school based around the information on the link below and the HSE document launched in 2021.

Our sessions cover

  • Understanding Type 1 diabetes in school-aged children
  • Recognising and responding to high and low blood glucose levels
  • Guidance on managing diabetes during activities like PE and school trips
  • How other schools commonly support students with diabetes

Sessions are delivered via Zoom or Teams, last approximately 50–60 minutes, and are designed to be engaging and practical.

If you are interested in booking one for your school, please contact us at info@diabetes.ie for more information.

Please note: Diabetes Ireland have received funding in previous years to deliver school sessions to each CHO area in webinar format with a chat function at the end of the webinar for questions.

If funding is successful, these will be rolled out on set days in September/October and will be open to all primary schools in the area.

These will be in webinar format and on a first come basis, there will not be a fee for this and will only be 1 per each CHO area.

If you wish to register your school for these sessions you can send school email details to wro@diabetes.ie and you will be notified when the school dates are for your county.

Please note: Free sessions are available subject to funding.

Availability may vary throughout the year.
