What are the main differences between type 1 and type 2 diabetes?

Type 1 diabetes: An autoimmune condition where the body attacks insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. It typically develops in childhood or adolescence and requires lifelong insulin therapy.

Type 2 diabetes: Characterised by insulin resistance and eventual pancreatic beta-cell dysfunction. It is more common in adults and can often be managed with lifestyle changes, oral medications, and sometimes insulin.
